Michael Charles

Michael Charles is a seasoned executive with more than 30 years of multidisciplinary experience spanning the petroleum industry, geology, environmental science, chemistry, quality, and sustainability. His career has encompassed both the public and private sectors, combining technical expertise with leadership and management experience.

Michael began his career in the petroleum industry in 1987, working offshore in the Norwegian sector and gaining a strong foundation in field and petroleum operations.

In the 1990s, he transitioned to the public sector, where he managed the laboratory supporting Oslo’s drinking water and wastewater systems. He subsequently led the successful privatization of the laboratory and was appointed CEO of the newly established company. Under his leadership, the laboratory achieved ISO 17025 accreditation, demonstrating his strong focus on quality management, technical competence, and regulatory compliance.

Michael returned to the petroleum industry in 1997, taking on a range of leadership and technical roles with a primary focus on Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE). His expertise includes chemical and environmental compliance, carbon accounting, sustainability, and the implementation of internationally recognized management systems, including ISO 14001 and ISO 50001.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Earth Sciences from Oxford Brookes University and a Master’s degree in Biogeochemistry from Newcastle University, United Kingdom.
